What You Will Do:

UMMS is currently seeking a Graphic Designer for our Corporate location.
Under limited supervision of the Director of Marketing and Communications, graphic designers will assist the Marketing, Communications and Community Health Department and other areas within UMMS in creating and designing hospital advertising, collateral, flyers, posters, promotional pieces, signage, Web sites, communication channels, publications, digital signs, etc. The position works with internal customers and external vendors to develop new designs that meet the design brand standards and effectively communicate the goals of UMMS and local site.
*** Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, Advertising, Publishing or business-related field is required. A portfolio of related design work and 5 years of communication and/or design experience in a hospital, corporate and/or agency environment is REQUIRED***
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
1. Designs hospital collateral and promotional pieces including, but not specific to brochures, flyers, advertisements, annual reports, invitations, signage, logos, newsletters and all digital assets.
2. Writes/edits and designs using graphics, photography, flash files, and some video elements.
3. Develops relationships with printers/vendors and attends press checks when necessary.
4. Provides creative guidance for all visual projects throughout UMMS and local site. Acts as creative service communications consultant to other departments as necessary.
5. Works closely with UMMS and other system hospital creative teams.
6. Understands and is knowledgeable about paper, printing processes and works with vendors to determine best price per project.
7. Prepares all graphic files and elements (downloadable) to be placed on the different UMMS hospitals Web sites and/or digital screens. Also prepares such files for advertising and display on external sites.
8. Shares knowledge by participating in departmental meetings and advises as to best practices on graphic and multimedia matters.
9. Assists the managers, directors and senior leadership with the development and execution of visibility programs that brings the UMMS and local site’s vision and goals to life.
10. Assists with photography and videography as needed for UMMS and local site. Works closely with UMMS photographer and videographer.
11. Assists director on any project or program as required.
12. May assist the Marketing and Communications Department with general projects including publications or events, or other assigned tasks.
13. Manages content generation and coordinates incoming content requests; prioritizes the work and ensures schedule coordination. Develops workflows production schedules, and budget estimates.
14. Manages content from creative development through production and delivery to ensure all creative projects are on strategy and “on-brand” consistently and appropriate for patient, visitor and employee audiences. Creates materials that meet branding standards, reviews new and existing materials, and works with hospital staff to correct any violations to these standards.
15. Manages digital screens (if applicable).

What You Need to Be Successful:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, Advertising, Publishing or business-related field is required. A portfolio of related design work is required.
2. Five years of communication and/or design experience in a hospital, corporate and/or agency environment.
3. Experience with HTML, Flash, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and In Design), Scala software and other state-of-the-art communications software, as well as user interface design and site architecture, is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge of web, digital/social media communications, and print production is required.
2. Advanced computer skills and graphic software experience required, with the ability to work with both Mac and PC platforms.
3. Written and oral communications skills with the ability to listen, respond and provide a creative solution that generates results are necessary.
4. Project management skills are required, with the ability to organize, set priorities and manage several projects at once on tight deadlines.
5. Highly organized adept project manager, with the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal business partners.
6. Demonstrates ability to keep up to date with best practices in creative services and information publishing, and conduct periodic research to determine effectiveness of communication channels and messaging and to help demonstrate return on investment for digital signage channel.
7. Demonstrates ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with multi-dimensional points of view, to take accountability for deliverables and results and to manage multiple complex tasks and projects concurrently.
