What You Will Do:
General Summary
Responsible for complex tasks typically relating to Telecommunications, monitoring, operations, installation, and/or maintenance for local, off-site, and/or remote locations.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
1. Moves, disassembles and reassembles Telecom equipment for department relocations and replacement of outdated equipment.
2. Inspects and installs Telecom equipment, various other software and related operating software packages in order to set-up, diagnose and/or remedy errors and/or equipment failure. Oversees work carried out by Associate Technicians.
3. Repairs, replaces voice terminals, handsets, and other Telecom peripherals for all contractual agreements within the System. Provides guidance to Telecom Technicians.
4. Maintains regular contact with users regarding status of open or pending service calls.
5. Maintains records of voice peripherals, video equipment and cable plant in use as required.
6. Ensures Telecom Systems meets regulatory agency requirements, in coordination with departmental management.
7. Inspects work performed by Telecommunications Technicians and/or contractors, daily, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
8. Provides on-call service to all hospital departments for terminal, printer and system problems.
What You Need to Be Successful:
Education and Experience
1. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Computer Information Systems Certificate is a plus. An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Maintenance or a related field is preferred. Additional certifications may be required.
2. Six years of Telecommunications experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge of PC, terminal and printer hardware, PACX, mainframe, and cabling knowledge, telecommunications and modems.
2. Strong general knowledge of telecommunications infra-structure such as VOIP, PBX, voice mail, wireless and other related telecom applications is needed.
3. Required skills in telecommunications equipment including but not only, testing equipment, tone generators, scopes, tone amplifiers, punch tools and various crimp tools. Knowledge of electronic repair, troubleshooting techniques and test equipment. Demonstrated knowledge of electrical installation is preferred.
4. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary to advise and consult with all levels of staff. Effective writing skills are required in order to document work performed, work schedules and work performance.
5. Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to work with all levels within the organization.
6. Excellent organization skills; demonstrates confidence and creativity.
7. Demonstrated ability to read and follow instructions in an accurately, timely and effective manner. Ability to read technical equipment operation manuals.
8. Ability to work with potentially hazardous tools and power equipment, safely and effectively.
